The PanHandler is an
exciting new tool for real-time surround sound panning and encoding. It
allows the production of multi-dimensional sound tracks for multimedia,
video, video games, television, radio ad spots, and many other
applications. The newest addition to the FX plug-in line for the SAW32
enviroment. The PanHandler can operate on any or all SAW32 tracks. The
selected sound file can be panned anywhere within the L,C,R,S soundfield
and includes a function for easily producing mono and surround
compatible sound files (file which can be played back on in Surround
Sound, Stereo, or Mono). All of this is accomplished without additional
hardware ! The final mix can then be successfully decoded via a Surround
sound receiver/decoder playback unit. All the surround sound encoded
events are played back exactly as they were panned and encoded. The
result is a remarkably realistic listening experience. And if play back
is in a normal stereo configuration, Surround Sound tracks still create
a wider, more enveloping sound field for the listener.There is no need
for large, expensive, and bulking mixing consoles as generally required
for surround sound panning and encoding. It is all done using software.

Once you have produced a stereo soundtrack encoded for surround sound with the PanHandler, it can be accurately played back with any surround sound decoder or
> receiver. If played back with normal stereo equipment, the soundtrack will still have a wider sound with excellent imaging. The PanHandler can be used from inside SoundForge and Wave Lab and other Two Track DirectX-compatible audio software! Due to the nature of DirectX. The PanHandler doesn't work in Multi-Channel Applications like Cakewalk Pro Audio, SAW32/SAWPRO, and Cubase VST. Also it doesn't work well in Cool Edit Pro (CEP uses very large buffers which make

made for Steinberg Jones Cubase VST. The PanHandler for VST does NOT
maintain it's own automation data but rather it relies on the VST
automation. Currently only Cubase VST has automation for plug-ins. This
means that the PanHandler can only be used as a surround sound
positioner (sound placement - No panning) in Wave Lab and SAWPro.

The PanHandler
Discrete is a Professional Multi-Channel Panning Plug-in for
SAW32/SAWPlus32 and SAWPRO. It brings multi-channela panning to the SAW
enviroment. Current speaker formats include QUAD, LCRS, and 5.1 speaker
formats. The PanHandler Discrete uses 32-bit of resolution for SAW32 and
SAWPlus32 and 64-bits of resolution for SAWPRO. The PanHandler Discrete
Professional can operate on multiple tracks where each track can be
panned and/or positioned anywhere in the virtual panning area
independently of one another. If you are working on 5.1 project then
there is a LFE plug-in which is used for generating the 3Hz to 120Hz Low
Frequency Effect signal. This help file also contains information on how
to use the LFE plug-in.
