What is x2iPod ?
If you have music files that can not be played by your music player, you can use x2iPOD to convert them to a different format. Just about any (unprotected) music file, including ogg, mp3, wma, and even the audio from video files, can be converted to any of the available formats, whout the need to install any additional software.
Besides format conversion (ogg to mp3 for example) you can also adjust the quality of the files you want. Nowadays, it's common to have music (mp3) files of a very high quality (320kbps) but for most people a lower quality is sufficient. Changing the quality from 320 to 128 will result in songs that are allmost 3x smaller, thus allowing you to put 3x as many songs on your player. If you just want something to listen to, you can go even lower, allowing you to bring even more songs with you on the go.
Why would you use it ?
x2iPOD was created to allow me to bring more songs with me to work. At the time, I only had a limited storage card for my PocketPC, (512MB) and I needed to listen to the music for 8 hours. By using x2iPOD, I was able to convert numerous songs from my mp3 collection to a smaller filesize, allowing me to put about 800 songs on a 512mb memorycard. Ofcourse the quality was not the best, because I used a very low quality setting, but I did have enough music to last me a full day. Without x2iPOD I would only be able to put about 2 cd's on the memorycard, while afterwards, it came down to about 12 CD's (32kbps mono setting).
What can it do ?
* Convert just about any music file to the following audio formats : aac, ac3, flac, m4a, mp3, ogg, ra, wav and wma
* Strip audio from video files (listen to your movie)
* Batch-conversion (drag a folder on x2iPOD, and it will pick out whatever it can handle). Handy batch functions are there as well. Autostart conversion, Close when finished, Add to iTunes when done and shell-integration (send to > x2iPOD)
